Aldo Spadoni's "Trifid Nebula"

As executor of Helen Reed's will, I am charged with liquidating her estate.  One Item is Aldo Spadoni's painting, "Trifid Nebula"  As I found it among Helen's Star Trek Memorabilia, I'm assuming she bought it from Aldo at one of the Star Trek conventions she attended.   Aldo's name is on the back, his home and college addresses at that time, and a price of $40.00.  Can anyone tell me anything else about the painting?  It is beautiful, by the way.  Thanks for your time, Elizabeth Sloane

A history of space and SF art in covers

Today I bumped into a rather neat site which has a history of covers of the magazine Astounding Stories of Super Science, through to it's current incarnation as Analog.

Lovely to scan through them all, following the stylistic shifts from shrieking girls in metal bikinis and art deco cylinder ships with rows of portholes down the side, through mismatched animal parts aliens, and glaring faces in the sky, thorough to the predominantly much more realistic modern style.

Reference site

I'm delighted to say that Scott Lowther has joined the network here.

For those who are not familiar, Scott has a superb source or reference material at his upship site:

This has everything from obscure Apollo documents to a mass of detailed information on the Orion Nuclear Pulse projects. I'm a very happy customer, and recommend it highly.

Source of NASA free 3d models

The basis for my ISS renders was a free model from NASA's 3d resources page. For those who did not know of it, you can find it here:

Many of the models are very low quality, but there are a few real gems in there, in several formats.

First orbit

I think many of you will have heard of this, but its worth repeating!

There's a free film been made, which uses footage shot from the international space station, carefully timed to match the track and lighting seen by Yuri Gagarin on his historic orbit of the Earth. It also includes recordings of his communications with Earth, timed to match the new footage.

An awesome project, and its free!

Using Pics for a self produced video

Hello to all.

I am not an artist from a capacity of visual art but I am a musician fascinated by astronomy and illustrations of space.  I feel I can contribute by making a video using a few songs I have composed in the genre of Space Music.

I would like to use some of the great pictures which I admire often in this web site, but would like to know what's at stake here with copyright infringement or permissions from artists here, etc.  This video will not be…

In Remembrance of Space Artist Frank Hettick

I just wanted to take this opportunity to alert the members of the International Space Art Network

of the death last week of member Frank Hettick.

Frank created a lot of space art in a style reminiscent of that of Chesley Bonestell. You can see some of Frank's artwork on his Sky-High Gallery web site at…
