International Space Art Network

Welcome to a place of vision and beauty. Welcome to the world of space art.

To the edge of the galaxy and back on a sound wave

Forgive my indulgence but I have been a fan of Space music (if such a genre really exists) since, would you believe Telstar (the pop song instrumental) back in the early 60s.  Then leaping into the psychedelic music of the mid-60s, which still prevails to this day in its myriad flavours.  In the early 70s I "found" Hawkwind.  With their mix of hard rock, sci fi lyrics and electronic (nascent) flourishes my love of Space music was well and truly set. Then came Tangerine Dream with Phaedra and I have never lost that love of space/celestial/cosmic music. Klaus Shulze, Cluster, Cosmic Jokers, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk and the Kraut Rock scene generally and their music, I reckon, is still great today as it was back in the analogue 70s. A few examples if I may -

These are just links. They are not my videos obviously
Fripp & Eno's "An Index of Metals":
"Cosmic Jokers":
Klaus Sculze's "Irrlicht":
Tangerine Dream's "Rubycon":
Robert Rich's "Hayagriva":

And a video favourite to take you there

"Drifting Nebulas":

Star One was a side project of  Arjen Anthony Lucasson - its loaded with songs inspired by great SF, and even includes a Hawkwind medley where Dave Brock provided the vocals...

Thanks Nick.  Good to hear of another space music fan.  Oh yes I could've listed a lot of others.  I like Steve Roach's music. That's cool that David is a member here.  I've not heard Star One.  I've been getting into the music of Atrium Carceri of late.

Cheers mate.

I think we have VERY similar tastes in music!

I would add Steve Roach for gentle ambient space music, Amon Duul II (more prog rock), and a lot more recently "Star One".

And of course, we are lucky enough to have David A Hardy as a member of these forums, who did stunning album cover art for Hawkwind!
